Movie Poster

My Movie Poster is now complete and I am very pleased with the outcome. My Movie is called 'Red Shift' and is a Science Fiction/Action Movie with Post-Apocalyptic Themes and Alien Invasion Themes.

The final product differs quite alot from the original design, partly because I struggled to find matching materials and secondly I was trying to fit in more with the rule of thirds. Now the main character is off centre and the camera angle and composition of the shot goes down the street at a more intresting angle than the original design which had it going straight down the street. I've also changed the designs for the space ships as I originally intended because flying saucers are a staple in the Sci-Fi industry and in 2010 after some recent Sci-Fi films, flying Saucers have become outdated. For these ships I cut them from Internet images, gathering pictures of the ships at different angles to make it more beleivable that there weere multple ships instead of using the same image over and over again. I was trying to make these large and imposing, the larger they are and the more un-naturaly they hang in the sky, the more unearthly the image.

Also the idea of the "Lone Wolf" in a deserted city was important to add to the post apocalyptic feel. Deserted streets have become popular of late in movies such as "I Am Legend" "The Last Seven", "28 Days Later" etc and it's a haunting image for the viewer.

I wanted to pay attention to detail to features such as the credits. For this I used the font "SteelTongs" which I downloaded from the internet which provides the various production titles as special characters which helped me avoid having to format the detailed style of movie poster credits. I also included the American Certificate "R" as from research I noticed you very rarely see "BBFC" ratings on movie posters. As I was using the American Certification I would use American magazines for the reviews. These small details give a more believable outcome.
